Celebrate World Environment Day with Green Changes At home

June is the month that we celebrate World Environment Day. World Environment Day is a United Nation’s event to raise awareness about the environment and to encourage protection of it.

The day includes advocacy, outreach and ideas that encourage change and action. Celebrated since 1974, there are now over 143 countries that take part in World Environment Day.

At Easco Air Conditioning and Heating, we’re excited to join in the efforts this year. In that spirit, today we’re happy to share some energy efficient tips to help you stay cool while also being environmentally friendly this summer.

Work to Keep the Heat Away

One way to be more energy efficient is to keep the heat away from your home this summer. The more you are able to prevent the heat from entering your home, the less you have to run your air conditioner. A few ways you can do this are by:

  • keepheatawayplanting trees around your home to provide shade
  • closing curtains or other window coverings during the heat of the day to block the sun
  • using fans throughout your home to help circulate air and keep it from feeling too hot - (always make sure they’re spinning counterclockwise to push hot air down).

These easy steps will help to make your home feel more comfortable while making your home a little more energy efficient this summer.

Regulate Body Temperature

maintainbodytemperatureYou might not have thought about it before, but staying hydrated is another way to be more energy efficient. Drinking plenty of water - especially cold water - helps to lower your body temperature.

As you can probably guess, this helps to make you feel cooler, without having to lower the temperature in your home.

This summer work to ensure that you and your family stay hydrated and regularly drink cold water. This is a simple and healthy way to help you stay comfortable without relying too much on your air conditioner.

Protect Against Air Leakage

preventairleakageAir leakage can have a big impact on the temperature of your home, especially during the heat of the summer. Small cracks or holes in windows, doors or walls allow hot air in and let cool AC air out.

Obviously, this can be very inefficient. To protect against this, take some time to properly seal all cracks and openings. In addition, adding insulation to your attic and walls can help to keep cool air in and hot air out this summer.

Plus, taking the time to do this now will also help to prepare your home to be more energy efficient this winter! As World Environment Day approaches, we’re reminded of how important it is for all of us to do our part to protect the environment.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate, try the above tips to make your home just a little bit more energy efficient. Do you have other friends that would like to be more energy efficient? If so, increase your impact by sharing these tips with them too!
